Introducing
Ordinariness
It is not easy to make an ordinary introduction in such an unordinary year, in unusual circumstances, in a world that is not sure whether it is in a world war. It is not easy in the frenzy of this dangerous exaggeration, local and global. It is not easy to pretend you are just fine.
We participate, each in our own way. We are not ostriches and what we present to the reader is not sand. No.
We, uh, did what we know. Made a new issue, while the printed media, the few that is left, still lives among us. We read the Cyrillic alphabet embroidered with gold threads. In Bistrica, near Petrovac, we recorded the tradition of millers. With Vladan Desnica, we found ourselves again in Islam Grčki, in Krajina. Peeked into the master workshops of painter Ranko Krstajić and pianist Nataša Veljković. Remembered the creator of the European Skopje, Josif Mihailović, and the ”eternal orphan” Rajko Nogo, and visited the football player Mijat Gaćinović. In Banjaluka, we were in an ascetic Center for Serbian Studies...
And let us take the ordinariness as a consolation, as a medicine and a refuge. Soon, perhaps, we will long for it, as ”the roads will long for the Turks”.
